about me

I am an award-winning journalist. I have a passion for research and in-depth reporting. As a political reporter in Anderson, Ind., I was always digging through stacks of papers to make sure taxpayers were getting the services they deserved.

I am an award-winning academic. While earning my master’s degree, I received grant money to complete my thesis project, a documentary about a family of Iraqi refugees who were placed in Indianapolis. I was also lead author on an award-winning research paper, a study of mothers in broadcast newsrooms, from the the Broadcast Education Association.

As for my experience in Web media… I assisted with iReport at CNN.com during the 2008 election of Barack Obama and helped with the launch of AnnArbor.com in 2009. As webmaster for Bluffton Today in 2012, I increased traffic to the site by 50 percent in two months.

Working in student media… I believe student media improves students’ writing abilities, gives student journalists opportunity to practice the craft while getting advice from practiced mentors and helps campuses appreciate open forums and other people’s ideas. As an adviser to a student media outlet, I have made my goal to teach students to be strong, independent and accountable for this career.

I am pursuing a career in journalism education at the collegiate level. After years of trying out paths in the journalism world, I think this is the path I most enjoy.

A few more personal details: I am the proud mother of two lovely girls. I also have one fur baby- Hazel, a 9-year-old Yorkie mix. I enjoy spending time with my family, going to the beach and being adventurous.
