I am an award-winning journalist. I have a passion for research and in-depth reporting. As a political reporter in Anderson, Ind., I was always digging through stacks of papers to make sure taxpayers were getting the services they deserved.
I am an award-winning academic. While getting my master’s degree, I received grant money to complete my thesis project, a documentary about a family of Iraqi refugees who were placed in Indianapolis. I was also lead author on an award-winning research paper, a study of mothers in broadcast newsrooms, from the the Broadcast Education Association.
As for my experience in Web media… I assisted with iReport at CNN.com during the 2008 election of Barack Obama and helped with the launch of AnnArbor.com in 2009. As webmaster for Bluffton Today in 2012, I increased traffic to the site by 50 percent in two months.
I am pursuing a career in journalism education at the collegiate level. After years of trying out paths in the journalism world, I think this is the path I most enjoy.
A few more personal details: I am the proud mother of a lovely, little girl. I also have one fur baby- Hazel, a 6-year-old Yorkie mix. I enjoy spending time with my family, going to the beach and being adventurous.
